In één van de vorige post beschreef ik hoe je in google docs eenvoudig documenten online kan maken en delen met ‘de wereld’. Er zit echter een speciale functie in de spreadsheet module die je toelaat om toetsen te maken, verdelen en opnieuw te verzamelen. Maak kennis met het ‘Formulier’.

Een formulier is een vragenlijst die verbonden is met een spreadsheet. Je kan allerlei soorten vragen gebruiken: gewone tekstinvoer, meerkeuze, selectievakjes, schaal, …
Je kan ook aangeven of een vraag ‘vereist’ is of niet. Zo vergeet dus niemand meer om zijn naam op je test te schrijven!

Je kan dit formulier op verscheidene manieren bij je ondervraagden krijgen:

  • Mailen vanuit het formulier zelf (je moet wel alle emailadressen afzonderlijk intikken)
  • Stuur de link naar het formulier (ga naar ‘Live formulier’ en kopieer de URL)
  • Publiceer het formulier op een webpagina (formulier insluiten)
Onderaan het formulier kunnen de leerlingen het formulier insturen. Het verschijnt dan in jouw spreadsheet en krijgt een tijdstempel, zo weet je precies wanneer de antwoorden werden ingevoerd.
Maar er is meer!
Google documents laat toe om scripts uit te voeren op spreadsheets. Een erg handig script heet ‘Flubaroo’. Met dit gratis script kan je gesloten vragen laten beoordelen. Zo kan je je al heel wat verbeterwerk besparen.
Hoe werkt het?
Flubaroo zal zoeken naar een werkblad dat ‘Student submissions’ heet. Je moet dus je werkblad hernoemen.
  • Vul zelf de toets (uiteraard met de juiste antwoorden) in.
  • Zoek het script (‘Invoegen’ > ‘Script’ > ‘Onderwijs’ > ‘Flubaroo’)
  • Installeer het (Even geduld, je moet ook autoriseren)
  • Klik nu in het menu op ‘Flubaroo’ > ‘Grade Assignment’)
  • Kijk na of alle vragen correct behandelt worden: Ofwel identificeert een vraag de student (naam, klas, nr., …), ofwel krijgt ze een gewicht van 1 punt (spijtig dat je niet meer kan laten geven), ofwel dient ze genegeerd te worden.
  • Kies jouw antwoorden uit de lijst
  • Daar is je resultaat !
Probleem: leerlingen die fouten typen zullen ook als fout verbeterd worden: Lady Madonna schreef ‘Ablert’ i.p.v. ‘Albert’. Dit kan een foutje zijn door het snelle typen, maar Flubaroo rekent het toch fout. Ook Joris scoort niet: hij schreef ‘Albert 2’ i.p.v. ‘Albert II’.
Deze methode werkt natuurlijk enkel voor gesloten vragen !

A form is a survey that is connected to a spreadsheet. Multiple types of questions can be used: text, multiple choice, scale, … You can also make a question ‘required’, so no more forgetting to write your name on a test!

Forms can be distributed in multiple ways:

  • email from within the form (you need to type each adress)
  • email a link to the form (use your own email application)
  • publish on a website (embedded as an iframe)
At the bottom of the form, students can submit their work. This appears in your spreadsheet with a time stamp so you know when the form was submitted.
Google docs allows third-party scripts to be used. A very useful one is ‘Flubaroo’. With this free add-on you can review the submitted answers. It can save you a lot of time.
How does it work?
Flubaroo will search for a spreadsheet called ‘Student submissions’. Make sure your sheet is called so.
  • Fill out the test yourself (with the correct anwers)
  • Find the script (‘Insert’ > ‘Script’ > ‘Education’ > ‘Flubaroo’)
  • Install it (This might take some time, you need to authorize)
  • Click in the menu on ‘Flubaroo’ > ‘Grade Assignment’
  • Check that all questions are handled in the right way: they can identify a student (name, class, …), they can award points or they can be ignored.
  • Choose your answers as the key.
  • There are the results !

Problem: Students that type faults will not earn points. Lady Madonna wrote ‘Ablert’ instead of ‘Albert’. She clearly knows the answer, but didn’t score. Also Joris had a problem: he wrote ‘Albert 2’ instead of ‘Albert II’ and didn’t score either.
